About MoneySense for Schools

A recent Ulster Bank survey has shown that 69% of adults feel that having money management lessons at school would have better equipped them to deal with the financial challenges of modern life, while 80% felt it very important to have an understanding of the importance and value of saving money from an early age.

In response to this Ulster Bank have introduced MoneySense for Schools, a programme that provides financial education for children, supporting them in learning how to manage their personal finances. Developed in partnership with teachers, the online, interactive resources are completely FREE. They are easy for teachers to deliver and have strong links to the Northern Ireland curriculum.

MoneySense is already firmly established in Great Britain through RBS and has been delivered to over 1 million pupils. It links to a range of subject areas including Maths, Enterprise, Home Economics, English, Business and Personal Development.

The MoneySense for Schools programme includes 4 modules which take students through the basics of banking and financial management – from the decision to open a bank account for the first time through to managing money on a day-to-day basis as part of independent living.

Paul Gray, Assistant Principal Officer for Financial Capability Post Primary from the CCEA says:

“Our young people today face an increasingly complex financial environment. This means there is a clear need to equip them with the knowledge, skills and competences they will need to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.

We must meet the challenge of producing resources which are relevant and interesting, capturing the young person’s imagination. The MoneySense resource manages to achieve this. Aligned with the NI Curriculum and piloted by teachers in Northern Ireland it presents a fresh look at the banking sector. Through its interactive and experiential online format it engages pupils right from the start, allowing them to lay strong financial foundations which they can build upon throughout their lives”.

You can help your students learn how to manage money better by exploring the MoneySense for Schools programme.

To help teachers get even more out of the programme, online training overviews are now available to watch. Click on the following links to find out more about MoneySense for Schools and each individual module:
